Halloween is coming! Are you ready?
Halloween is a holiday which was introduced to the Balkans from the Western part of the world. Until two decades ago, this holiday was not even mentioned here in Serbia. The key features of this holiday include dressing-up, trick-or-treating from door-to-door and carving pumpkins into spooky characters. Every 31st of October, children celebrate this day in kindergartens and schools by wearing masks and make-up and enjoying various Halloween-related activities. Parents do not miss out on the fun during this night either, because they are often invited to parties which include dressing-up.
Have you decided how you will disguise yourself for this scaaary holiday?
The members of the Djurovski family have picked out their costumes! In fact, they are still deciding which mask is best suited for this night. Daddy Marko insists they transform into the “Star Wars” family, Maria wants them all to be burglars, but Maxim, amazed by the power of the sword, begs Mom and Dad to consider being pirates. The family-tradition of the Djurovski family is to have matching masks, so they must come to an agreement. What do you think, which costume will they chose?
It is important to spend time with your children and use every possible opportunity to create an unforgettable experience for them! Which activities do you prepare for Hallowen for your kids? Maria buys a couple of pumpkins a day or two in advance, and with the help of Maxim and Marko, carves the pumpkins to become spooky! Then, they put a candle in each pumpkin, place them on the balcony and keep them shining bright all night long, in order to scare the witches away! Isn’t that fun?
Follow Maria’s instructions for carving a pumpkin:
1. Wash and dry a round, orange pumpkin.
2. Using a permanent marker, draw the eyes, nose and mouth on the pumpkin.
3. Draw a circle of diameter 10 cm around the stem at the top of the pumpkin.
4. Cut out the circle, eyes, nose and mouth with a knife.
5. Using your hands, remove the seeds from the pumpkin and clean it well.
6. Light the candle, place it inside the pumpkin and cover it.
Make sure that the candle is small so that the flame does not catch the pumpkin lid.
Buaahahaaaaaa, we are ready. Are you?
